– Establish a network of young artists working on field recordings and experimental music with a keen eye on the natural environment and the landscape.

– Offer a laboratory for experimentation, failure and success as a tool to learn..

Has the project been evaluated? If so, please explain how:

An important parameter for evaluation is the uninterrupted attention and fascination of the children during no less than 90′

Outcomes of the project:

The Project is constantly evolving. One of the main goals every year is to have a big amount of applications to choose. This provides the organisation with targeted selection of participants with different backgrounds, skills and knowledge, enreaching the overall experience by considering, from each participant what can he or she learn and what can bring to the table.

A small network of ex-participants has been established and there is a very vivid flow of information between ex-campers and people who might apply for next year. The number of applicants that apply because somebody recommended grows exponentially every year.

Folks being part of the Summer Camp have applied on their daily workflow ideas, concepts, techniques and perspectives taught on the summer camp.

We have established on the local community of El Polell (a very rural area nearby Barcelona) a yearly event. By the end of the Camp, the participants present live the outcome of their work at the Summer Camp in the shape of a concert and a exhibition in Chapel of Santa Susanna. The event has become a summer encounter for all neighbors and the possibility, for the participants of the camp, to show their work to new audiences.

Quotations from participants and artists:

“The worst part of the Summer Camp is that it ends”

“… amazing experience. The great thing was that everyone was collaborative and friendly, there was no one preventing the group from being well blended and in harmony.” “I am already envying those who will participate next year.”

“The environment, the landscape and devotion of the tutor, it all helps to make this the perfect place to work collectively in creative projects”

” The experience has been great, I think it has exceeded all expectations that one might have imagined”

Do you have any data on the longer-term impact of the project/event on participants?

No.

Please give details about what steps have been taken to make projects or events accessible to people with disabilities or learning difficulties:

We haven’t encountered nor confronted this issue yet. We are a very small venture and so far we haven’t encountered the need to address that.

Please provide 5 key recommendations for determining good practice in projects that aim to engage new audiences with new music?

– Never underestimate new audiences.
– If you are a creator always think about the audience listening / watching your work, and how this is going to reflect on them.
– Embrace emotiveness, beauty, wander or horror on top of concept without giving up on anything.
– Be brief.

Future plans

Summer Camp doesn’t wants to grow. The plan is to keep the yearly edition and to improve our selection method and our technical stash (speakers, mixers, microphones etc…). Finally the Audiotalaia Summer Camp aims to solidify its activity at El Polell rural area as an environment receptive and open to sound art and experimental music.
